Recommendations after migraine treatment with Botox

Sport and physical activities

Take a short break from sport and avoid intensive sessions for the first 72 hours. This is the only way for the Botox against migraines to take effect undisturbed! Also avoid extreme heat during this period! You should avoid sunbathing, saunas and the like for these days.

Alcohol and nicotine

Alcohol and nicotine can increase swelling and slow down your healing process. You should therefore reduce your consumption a few days before and especially after the injection. It would even be best if you simply abstained from them altogether.

Massages

Please do not touch the treated areas yourself or allow others to do so after your treatment. Simply reschedule your massage appointments for another day! Otherwise you run the risk of the botulinum slipping.

Regular refresher

We recommend refreshing your migraine injections every 3 months to prevent migraine attacks in the long term.

As with any other treatment, side effects can also occur with Botox for migraines. However, these are generally temporary and usually very mild. The first effect of the migraine treatment usually occurs within 48-72 hours. Botox injections for migraines are administered after an individual consultation in the exact areas where you feel the headache. Common injection areas are the forehead, temples, back of the head and neck in order to relax these muscle groups locally and thus prevent attacks.
Under certain conditions, the costs are covered by health insurance. Every patient must suffer from chronic migraine with at least 15 headache days per month, have tried at least two medications without success and have the treatment carried out by specialized doctors.
